| Nicole Henry in Japan On Saturday, July 22, Nicole Henry performed to thousands at the 17th Annual Nango Jazz Festival in northern Japan. As part of her 10-day tour, this was the third show after two Tokyo performances. Nicole will head to Nagoya and Mito today and tomorrow to complete her visit. An independent artist, Nicole has created quite a name for herself in Japan and Korea since her debut CD release The Nearness of You earned her the HMV title "Best New Artist of the Year - 2004." She followed that release with the Eddie Higgins Trio CD collaboration entitled, Teach Me Tonight, earning another award by retailer HMV, "Best Vocal Jazz Album - 2005." The release of her debut album in the U.S. brought much success on jazz radio, being the 5th Most-Added CD in its first month out, and reaching #27 on the Jazz Week charts. The timing of this tour means a lot to Henry who, just one day before departing for Japan, completed the recording and mixing of the material that will make up her third CD. "I've been having a great time presenting the new material for these loving audiences. It certainly makes me more excited about the distribution and release of this CD!" Nicole's other career highlights have included performances with the Manchester Craftsman's Guild, the Cab Calloway Orchestra at the Rainbow Room, the Juilliard Jazz Octet at the new Lincoln Center; as well as at the 2006 Air Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival, Dakota Bar & Grill in Minneapolis and many more. write your comments about the article :: © 2006 Jazz News :: home page |
