| Athena Masci: Higher And Higher Athena Masci is number 19 on the American Idol Underground pop charts this week. After the release of her new self-titled EP Athena has been hitting the New York music scene hard with her inspired pop rock with blues and folk edges. After winning honorable mention in the jazz section of the Billboard Music Awards in 2004, Athena has been tirelessly frequenting such New York events as the Singer/Songwriter Sessions, September Concert and the Emergenza Festival as well as the Millennium Music Conference in Harrisburg, PA. Athena Masci is a singer/ songwriter based in New York. Known for pop melodies and blues riffs, she is a tangled reflection of Carole King, the Indigo Girls, Alison Krauss, and Ella Fitzgerald. From sultry to bubbly, this strong voice will grab you. The story begins in Chapel Hill, NC where Athena grew up singing her heart out and generally making a scene. From chamber music to gospel, she explored many genres, incorporating musical theater into the mix as well. The first band, Dick and Jane's Magnificent Fantasmagoria, debuted at prestigious local events.
