| Clare Teal wins ’Best Vocalist’ at BBC Jazz Awards 2006 Sony recording artist Clare Teal has won the award for "Best Vocalist" at this years BBC Jazz Awards, the most respected award in the jazz industry. The award was presented to her by her long time friend, Jamie Cullum at The Mermaid Theatre in London. Before handing over the award Jamie gave a heartfelt speech in tribute to Clare, the person responsible for his first recording contract. Clare's debut album for Sony "Don't Talk" entered the UK National Album Chart at No.20 making her one of the most successful female jazz singers in the UK. She signed to Sony/BMG in 2004 with a deal that broke records for a UK jazz singer after she introduced Jamie to her first record label, Candid records. The talented singer and songwriter is poised to become a household name around the World as the new fulltime presenter of BBC Radio 2's "Big Band Special" which is broadcast every Monday night at 9pm. She has appeared on the Parkinson TV show twice and is regularly featured on his Sunday Radio show "The Sunday Supplement". Clare has appeared on ITV's "Des & Mel" and "Christmas Mania" where she stole the show with her jazz version of "Winter Wonderland" and is a regular on Breakfast TV in the UK. She has also worked with John Dankworth's Big Band for Radio 2's "Live From The Stables", the BBC Concert Orchestra for "Friday Night Is Music Night" which she not only performed on, but also presented live from Cheltemham International Festival this year and The BBC Big Band with whom she made two special appearances with at the 2006 Royal International Air Tattoo. She wowed thousands on the ONEWORLD Stage at Glastonbury, took the Edinburgh Fringe festival by storm and has toured all over the UK taking all most, if not all, of the major festivals including the BBC Proms In The Park where she performed in front of 47, 000 people. Now she's back with two of her songs on the soundtrack to the hit UK film "Confetti" and a new album to be released internationally in early 2007. Clare continues her tour of the UK this year introducing audiences to material from her forthcoming album as well as standards and the most popular of her own songs from her back catalogue of five albums.
