Buster Williams at Sweet Rhythm

Bassist Buster Williams performs at Sweet Rhythm Jazz Club, NYC June 23-June 24, 2006 with his "Something More" Quintet, featuring George Colligan, Anthony Wonsey, Stefon Harris, Marcus Strickland, and Lenny White.

Praised by Jazztimes for "the beauty of his tone and sound, along with the consistent quality of his writing and recordings, " the bassist, bandleader, and composer Buster Williams has performed, recorded, and collaborated with jazz giants such as Art Blakey, Betty Carter, Chick Corea, Dexter Gordon, Herbie Hancock, Miles Davis, and Count Basie. Mr. Williams earned a Grammy in 1979, the Min-On Art Award, and the SGI Glory Award. He is also the recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts grant, as well as a New York Foundations for the Arts Fellowship Grant.

In 2004, Buster Williams celebrated the release of Griot Liberte, featuring Stefon Harris, George Colligan, and Lenny White. Kevin Convey, of the Boston Herald, writes "Just when you thought nobody made the kind of jazz album that depends more on class, beauty, chops and communication than on concepts and star value, along comes bassist Buster Williams' Griot Liberte. It's enough to restore your faith in the art form." This year, Mr. Williams performed with the Mary Lou Williams Collective on the album The Zodiac Suite.
