| Alex Blake at Harlem Meer Alex Blake, one of the most popular and original bassists on the New York jazz scene, will perform Sunday, June 18, 2006 at Central Park's Harlem Meer with his quartet. Blake has toured and recorded with jazz greats including Dizzy Gillespie, Art Blakey, and The Manhattan Transfer-- just the tip of a very long list. He's also known for his role as the flamenco-styled percussive bassist with Randy Weston's African Rhythms Band. Now Blake steps up as a composer and bandleader in his own right, with a great new quartet featuring pianist Ted Cruz (Aerosmith, production work) sax player/flutist Chris Hunter (Michael Franks, Joe Jackson) and the hottest drummer around New York, Victor Jones (Stan Getz, Little Jimmy Scott, Stanley Turrentine, and the Mingus Big Band). write your comments about the article :: © 2006 Jazz News :: home page |
