| The EuroJazz Series debuting at Toronto Jazz Festival The EuroJazz Series with artists from Russia, Netherlands, Norway, and Sweden debuting at this year's Toronto Jazz Festival. The series opens on June 26 with top Russian saxophone player, Igor Butman making his Canadian debut. Igor has performed and recorded with some of the world's top musicians and arrives in Toronto with his band from Moscow. The Netherland's dynamic Jazz scene is represented by bandleader, improviser and composer Joost Buis. He brings his tentet, the Astronotes, to impart the innovative Netherlands sound, June 27th. Touring in support of their latest album, Sweet Mental, electrojazz group Wibutee from Norway, will challenge any audience expecting standards. June 28 promises a night of alternative sounds and groove inspired by the roots of jazz-rock, and the limitless boundaries of electronic and digital sound making. Jeanette Lindstrm is one of Sweden's most prized jazz singers today. Composing and performing her own material, both music and lyrics, Jeanette leads her quintet, the Riddle band June 29. The series closes July 1 with Zanussi Five, led by bass player Per Zanussi. The players are from the new, fresh generation of Norwegian Jazz including three of the hottest sax players in Norway. The resulting sound is an extroverted and slightly surrealist mix of swinging grooves, energetic free jazz and beautiful melodies. The TD Canada Trust Toronto Jazz Festival will be cooking for 10 days this summer when it takes over the city from June 23 - July 2, 2006.
