| Paquito D'Rivera will play in Ottawa The Paquito D'Rivera Quintet will be performing on the Main Stage of the Ottawa International Jazz Festival at Confederation Park on June 24, replacing Hilton Ruiz, who has been hospitalized in New Orleans. "It is unfortunate that Hilton won't be able to perform at the Festival and our thoughts go out to him and his family in this difficult time" says Executive Director Catherine O'Grady. The Festival is pleased to have Paquito D'Rivera, a leading figure in Latin and jazz music, joining the Concert Under the Stars Series. Mr. D'Rivera's discography includes over 30 solo albums in Jazz, Bebop and Latin music. He has won six Grammy awards for albums including Portraits of Cuba (1996), Tropicana Nights (2000), and Live at the Blue Note (2001), which featured his Quintet. He is the first artist to win Latin Grammies in both Classical and Latin Jazz categories, for Stravinsky's Historia del Soldado as well as Brazilian Dreams, a collaboration with New York Voices. Most recently the Jazz Journalists Association awarded Mr. D'Rivera the Clarinet of the Year 2004 award. write your comments about the article :: © 2006 Jazz News :: home page |
