Big Lick Bluegrass Festival

The Big Lick Bluegrass Festival on Saturday, June 10 features performances by the Cherryholmes Family Band, who will share the stage with Goldwing Express, IIIrd Tyme Out and Larry Cordle & Lonesome Standard Time. Big Lick is located 10 minutes south of Albemarle and 20 minutes north of Charlotte on NC Hwy.

Mom, dad and four children, who form the Cherryholmes Family Band, have amassed quite a collection of honors throughout the years. In 2005, the International Bluegrass Music Association named the family "Entertainer of the Year."

Other accolades include a Grammy Award nomination for Best Bluegrass Album and Banjo Player of the Year, an award given to Cia Leigh Cherryholmes in 2005.

The band has a very loyal following, having appeared on "The Grand Ole Opry" and at The Ryman Auditorium, Ernest Tubb's Midnight Jamboree, Nashville's Country Music Fan Fare, Dollywood, Brandon, the Oakboro Music Hall and the list goes on.

In 1991, IIIrd Tyme Out hit the floor running, or strummin' and pickin', that is. Three years later, the bluegrass favorite picked up its first IBMA award for Vocal Group of the Year – and took home 7 more. That started a trend, winning more than 50 national music industry awards since, including the Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music in America Bluegrass Band of the Year.

Recognized for a fun, laid back style of showmanship, IIIrd Tyme Out is a crowd favorite, bringing a tremendous amount of talent – and humor – to the stage. Another favorite, Larry Cordle, is one of the most sought-after songwriters in country and bluegrass music. A fulltime CPA, Cordle really launched his music career in 1983 with the release of "Highway 40 Blues, " a number one hit on the charts.

Since, his songs have sold more than 50 million albums, recorded by the likes of Alison Krauss, Rhonda Vincent, Garth Brooks, George Strait, Trisha Yearwood, Reba McEntire, Diamond Rio, Alan Jackson, and more.

Cordle is an accomplished performer and singer, too. The IBMA has awarded Larry Cordle & Lonesome Standard Time "Song of the Year" twice. They have landed Grammy Award nominations for the "Best Bluegrass Album" and have been regulars on the Bluegrass and Americana music charts.

Bob Baldridge loves to crack a good joke and keeps fans going. A member of Goldwing Express, Baldridge leads his three sons, Paul David, Stephen Joseph and Shawn David in popular selections of bluegrass, old time country and Southern gospel tunes.

Nothin' Fancy is slated to perform some original pieces at the Big Lick Bluegrass Festival. "I Met my Baby in a Porta-Jon Line" and "Look Out Mama Done Stepped on the Scales Again" are two of their crowd pleasers.

Since 1994, the band has released 6 full-length albums and one CD single, has played at The Ryman Theater, Lincoln Center and the Birchmere, in Alexandria, Virginia. The group has landed a number of music nominations, including "Entertaining Group of the Year" by SPBGMA. The 3rd Annual Big Lick Bluegrass Festival will be held rain or shine at the Big Lick Farm, site of the Big Lick Antiques Festival.
