| Karen Blixt Jazzschool On Saturday, June 3rd, 2006, to commemorate the release of her first-ever studio recording, Spin This, Karen Blixt will be teaming with a host of the jazz's finest luminaries for a stellar performance at Berkeley's Jazzschool for Music Study and Performance. Karen Blixt will delight audiences with another daring and bold array of jazz's finest sounds. Karen proved exactly how well her CD is being received by selling out two consecutive engagements at San Francisco's world-famous venue Yoshi's, as well as having cracked the prestigious JazzWeek Top 50 Albums Charts, making it to the top 30's. Karen Blixt first experimented with musical styles by "jazzing" up hymns at the church she attended in upstate New York while only three years old. Intrigued by the inventive and improvisational nature of jazz, Karen followed her muse to California's Bay Area, where she immediately proceeded to establish herself as a prominent figure in the San Francisco jazz enclave. She has performed with Bobby McFerrin on his score for the Academy Award -winning film Common Threads, in addition to singing extensively throughout the distinguished Northern California jazz community. For this exclusive appearance at The Jazzschool, Karen has enlisted an all-star line-up of celebrated musicians, the majority of whom also played on her debut disc, Spin This, which arrived March 7 from HiFli Records. The impressive collective of special guests accompanying Karen at the Jazzschool includes Alex Acua (percussion, drums), Abraham Laboriel (bass), Will Kennedy (drums), Sheldon Brown (bass clarinet), Paul McCandless (oboe, English horn), Joe Hebert (cello) and Frank Martin (piano, keyboards).
