David Francey at the Glebe Community Centre

The two-time Juno Award winner David Francey will close the first season of Underground Sound's concert series Tuesday, May 16 at the Glebe Community Centre, Ottawa. Francey, born in Ayrshire, Scotland, is renowned for his personal and immediate
connection with his audiences. A gifted singer and storyteller with a wry sense of humour, he is also famous for his astute observations about everything under the sun, making him a favourite with those who enjoy a good quip and a different way of looking at life.

Francey and his family immigrated to Toronto when he was 12. Music was always a big part of his upbringing and he grew up singing traditional Scottish tunes with his sister, mother and father, especially on family drives through the countryside. Francey grew to love Canada, and hitchhiked three times across the continent. Many of his lyrics were shaped by his adventures on the road. A man of all trades, Francey has worked in Toronto train yards, the Yukon bush, and as a carpenter in Quebec's Eastern Townships. These experiences are deftly captured in such songs as 'Hard Steel Mill', 'Mill Towns' and ' Valley's Edge'.

Underground Sound, hosted by the Glebe Community Association and the Glebe Business Group, is a series of concerts to raise money to bury hydro lines during the upcoming Bank Street reconstruction. The series featured top-notch Canadian recording artists Lynn Miles, Valdy, Stephen Fearing, Tom Wilson, Colin Linden and David Gogo.
