| Andre Canniere Group at Knitting Factory Andre Canniere Group (Andre Canniere - trumpet, composer; Josh Rutner - saxophone; Ryan Ferreira - guitar, Ike Sturm - bass, Ted Poor - drums ) will perform at Knitting Factory, New York on Sunday, May 14th, 2006. The Andre Canniere Group, formed in early 2005, has been creating a storm in New York's modern jazz scene. They perform challenging yet accessible music full of evocative harmonic explorations and complex rhythms, complemented by thoughtful improvisation. Much of the music, all of which is composed by Canniere, is rooted in jazz, but also draws heavily upon other genres including pop, classical and folk music. Their first album As Of Yet is the culmination of the group's first year together, and includes live as well as studio recordings. The CD was released in February 2006. Andre Canniere graduated from the Eastman School of Music in 2003 where he received a Master's Degree in Jazz Performance. In the fall of 2003 he moved to New York City and is now performing and recording with a variety of musicians in several ensembles. He has performed with some of New York's most respected jazz musicians including the Maria Schneider Jazz Orchestra, Donny McCaslin, Ben Monder, Rich Perry, Chris Potter and Jeff Ballard. Josh Rutner recieved his degree in jazz performance and contemporary media from Eastman in 2003. He is a member of the Respect Sextet which has two critically acclaimed recordings and has performed at major jazz festivals in Rochester and Toronto. Josh currently lives in New York City where he freelances as a saxophonist. Ryan Ferreira grew up in Santa Rosa California. At 18 he left to study at the Eastman School of Music and in the fall of 2003 he moved to Brooklyn. Since moving to the city he has been involved with several different projects including playing guitar on 2 tracks for Universal Records(harpist K), recording sessions at Linden Oaks, mixing a Jerseyband tune, and appearing in Frankfurt and Zurich as a soloist with the HR Big Band. Ike Sturm graduated from Eastman in 2003 and is now living and working in New York as a bassist and composer. He has performed with Gene Bertoncini, Bobby McFerrin, Maria Schneider, Kenny Wheeler and the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. He has played on four "Downbeat" award-winning recordings as well as composer Steve Reich's most recent chamber music releases on Canteloupe and Nonesuch records. In June of 2003, he performed on albums with Ben Monder and Rich Perry. Ted Poor graduated from the Eastman School of Music in 2003 where he earned his BM in Jazz Performance and studied drum set with Rich Thompson and percussion with John Beck. Now a resident of New York City, Ted performs, records and tours with Ben Monder, Cuong Vu, Bill Frisell, Chris Potter and Ralph Alessi.
