| Victor Goines and the New Orleans Syncopated Swingers featured on All Souls at Sundown, Sunday May 7, 6pm Victor Goines, noted clarinetist and saxophonist, with the New Orleans Syncopated Swingers featuring Wycliffe Gordon, trombone, will be featured in an evening jazz meditation on Sunday, May 7 at All Souls at Sundown, All Souls Unitarian Church, NYC. Celebrating the musical soul of New Orleans, native son Victor Goines leads an ensemble playing the best of Jelly Roll Morton, Sidney Bechet, Louis Armstrong, and other early jazz pioneers. The event marks the end of the fifth season of All Souls at Sundown, a unique monthly series blending jazz, poetry, and meditation. In honor of the fifth season and of the contributions of New Orleans musicians, this program will conclude with a second line and New Orleans jambalaya and red velvet cake by John "Sweet Daddy" Longo, Jr. Proceeds from the evening will benefit the New Orleans Musicians Clinic, whose mission it is to sustain Louisiana's musicians in mind, body and spirit by developing access to primary care and preventative health services and by addressing the health care needs of the musicians and their families. Victor Goines was born and raised in New Orleans. He received his Bachelor of Music Education degree from Loyola University (New Orleans), and his Master of Music degree from Virginia Commonwealth University. Mr. Goines is Artistic Director of the Juilliard Institute for Jazz Studies and serves as Education Consultant to Jazz at Lincoln Center. A member of the LCJO since 1993, Mr. Goines is also an acclaimed solo artist and leads his own quintet, with several commercially available recordings. He has performed and recorded with the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, Wynton Marsalis, Ellis Marsalis, Wycliffe Gordon, Marcus Roberts, Smithsonian Masterworks Orchestra, Terence Blanchard, Ruth Brown, Dizzy Gillespie, Lionel Hampton, Freddie Hubbard, James Moody, Dianne Reeves, and a host of other renowned musicians and ensembles in a wide variety of genres.
