Elio Villafranca Quintet's At Sweet Rhythm

Elio Villafranca Quintet ( Elio Villafranca - Piano, Terell Stafford - Trumpet, Casey Benjamin - Alto Saxophone, Francisco Mela - Drums, Yunior Terry - Bass) will give its debut New York performance at Sweet Rhythm Thursday, May 4, 2006.

Elio Villafranca's debut album Incantations/Encantaciones was selected by Jazz Times Magazine as one of the top 50 Jazz albums in 2003. He is following up that triumph with a new recording featuring Eric Alexander. Pianist and composer, Elio Villafranca was born in Cuba where he was classically trained in percussion and composition. He has been involved in the east coast Jazz and Latin Jazz scenes, integrating elements of traditional jazz and Afro Cuban genres to create brazen innovations with a distinctly percussive feel. He has performed with Jon Faddis, Terell Stafford, Eddie Henderson, Giovanni Hidalgo, Horacio "El Negro" Johnny Pacheco, Ralph Peterson, Lenny White, Sonny Fortune, Jane Bunnett, and Pat Martino among others.
