| Montana Christchurch International Jazz Festival Founded in 1998, the Montana Christchurch International Jazz Festival is the largest jazz festival in New Zealand. The 5th Montana Christchurch International Jazz Festival (Monday 24 – Sunday 30 April 2006) came to a close. Success this year came in securing top rated international artists Georgie Fame (UK), James Morrison and Joe Chindamo (AUS) along with New Zealand's golden boy Nathan Haines. Rhiannon (USA) was introduced to critical acclaim as well as talent from new territories including Yasuto Ohara (Japan). "This year's line up was a treasure trove for those wanting to be entertained. Our choice of performers was endorsed by audiences eagerly snapping up tickets in the lead up to the Festival, " says Festival Director Jodi Wright. Sell out headline acts were mirrored across the city with capacity crowds at the Great Hall and Lyttelton's Harbourlight. Over 150 musicians participated in the week's more than 40 shows. The entertainment extended into the community by staging shows at venues in the Jazz City Series, the Christchurch International Airport and four hours of free outdoor performances at the Christchurch Arts Centre. "Audiences have signaled their interest in jazz by showing such tremendous support for an annual Festival. Interest from around the country also indicates the industry also reaps the benefit of the work we do to enliven the lives of Cantabrians, " says Wright write your comments about the article :: © 2006 Jazz News :: home page |
