Public Will Decide On John Lennon Award Winners

The Grand Prize Winners from Session I and II of the ninth annual John Lennon Songwriting Contest are now competing in an online voting battle to determine the Lennon Award Winner for each of 12 musical categories. Anyone can votethrough April 26, 2006. The Lennon Award Winners will be announced on May 1st. Each of the winners will receive 1000 custom CDs printed in full color 6 panel digipaks courtesy of Disc Makers worth $1990 and a $5,000 advance from EMI Music Publishing. Each of the Grand Prize Winners has already won 5, 000 in project studio equipment from Roland/Edirol, Audio-Technica and Brian Moore Guitars, $500 gift certificates from MusiciansFriend.com and the honor of being selected by celebrity panels that included Fergie (Black Eyed Peas), the Bacon Brothers, Al Jarreau, Robin Gibb, and D12, as well as music industry executives.

The Maxell Song of the Year will be selected from the 12 Lennon Award Winners by the stellar JLSC Executive Committee which includes John Legend, Elton John, Carlos Santana, Enrique Iglesias, Tim McGraw, Black Eyed Peas, Carol Bayer Sager, CeCe and BeBe Wynan, Amy Grant, and other renowned performers and songwriters. The $20, 000 check from the Maxell Corporation for the winning song will be presented at the NAMM Summer Session in Austin, Texas in July '06.

The 12 categories are: Rock, Country, Jazz, Pop, World, Rhythm & Blues, Hip Hop, Gospel/Inspirational, Latin, Electronic, Folk, and/or Children's. Entries should be judged on originality, melody, composition, and lyrics (when applicable). Instrumental compositions are encouraged. Neither performance nor production value should be considered.

The John Lennon Songwriting Contest, in its ninth year, is dedicated to providing opportunities to both professional and amateur songwriters. Winners in 12 categories receive awards and prizes totaling over $225,000. The $20,000 Maxell Song of the Year is selected by a stellar Executive Committee including Elton John, Tim McGraw, Sugar Ray, Carlos Santana, Black Eyed Peas, John Legend, Enrique Iglesias, Mary J. Blige, Nick Lachey, and many more. Sponsors of the Contest include Maxell, Roland, Brian Moore Guitars, Audio-Technica, EMI Music Publishing, musiciansfriend.com, and Disc Makers. The John Lennon Songwriting Contest is made possible by an agreement with Yoko Ono Lennon who said, "I hope this contest will encourage, inspire and help the songwriters of the world to share their dreams with us."
