Turn-of-the-century New Orleans, home to the infamous Storyville red-light district, gave rise to the music that ultimately defined jazz's founding generation. Jazz innovators such as Jelly Roll Morton, Louis Armstrong and Sidney Bechet lived and embraced the city's character while taking full advantage of its musical freedom. Legends of Storyille pays tribute to these acclaimed music masters.

For 25 years, Flushing Council on Culture and the Arts has been a creative catalyst for developing and promoting arts throughout Queens, presenting art exhibitions and award-winning performances of jazz, opera, theater, dance and classical music. The Council also provides educational opportunities for community residents of all ages; and vital services to local artists and arts organizations. These activities take place in historic Flushing Town Hall, which the Council renovated and operates on behalf of the City of New York. In 2004, The Council became an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution
