| Spoleto Festival USA's 30th Season Spoleto Festival USA announced the complete program for its 30th Anniversary season. The highlights of the 2006 Festival, slated for May 26 to June 11 include American debuts of Norwegian jazz vocalist Solveig Slettahjell and Brazilian guitarists Sérgio Santos and Marcus Tardellia, new production of Gounod's opera Roméo et Juliette along with encore performances of last year's extraordinarily popular production of Don Giovanni. Other highlights: the American debut of Great Britain's Kneehigh Theatre; the world premiere of Geisha, directed by the young Singaporean director Ong Keng Sen; Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company's powerful new piece Blind Date; Nrityagram Dance Ensemble, a stellar troupe of dancers and musicians whose work is steeped in the Odissi traditions; Spanish flamenco sensation Sara Baras; Paul Taylor Dance Company's critically acclaimed Promethean Fire; the return of sparkling mezzo-soprano Jennifer Larmore and the Westminster Choir in a performance of Mozart's Great Mass in C Minor; the Wachovia Jazz series headlined by Grammy Award-nominated vocalist Kurt Elling; the 33 effervescent concerts of the Bank of America Chamber Music series; the Ginn Clubs & Resorts Spoleto Festival Orchestra in a commanding performance of Mahler's Fifth Symphony; a late afternoon Intermezzo concert of Haydn and Mozart piano concerti performed by virtuoso Andrew von Oeyen; the always fresh Music in Time series with featured pianist Jenny Lin; the return of Circus Flora; the return of the Solo Turns series with two new works by Mike Daisey; and much more. write your comments about the article :: © 2006 Jazz News :: home page |
