| Terrance Simien Plays Opening Day of N.O. Jazz Fest Terrance Simien plays Jazz Fest on opening day, April 28 at the Congo Square Stage. Simien has performed Zydeco music at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage music festival over the years on bills with Better than Ezra, Cowboy Mouth, The Meters, Allan Toussaint, and Ozomatli. This is because Simien's music is as diverse and alive as the artists with which he has shared the stage. "A Zydeco Master" says Rolling Stone, Simien is leading the national effort to establish a Zydeco and Cajun Grammy category. Capping a five-year effort, the proposal goes before The Recording Academy trustees this May. Terrance Simien's upcoming August release "Across the Parish Line" (AIM Records) will be a collection of both originals that reflect his deep Louisiana roots and diverse covers that become his own with unique vocals and musical interpretations. The CD features guest artists Paul Simon, Marcia Ball, Garth Hudson and the late Rick Danko. And for the first time Simien records the song that he co-wrote with Dennis Quaid for the smash hit movie, "The Big Easy." Simien's performances are legendary and his artistry has taken the music that has become synonymous with the cultural identity of Louisiana to a whole new level. Delivered with extraordinary vocals, Terrance Simien and the Zydeco Experience has performed their eclectic fusion of Zydeco for twenty-five years. Simien effortlessly fuses other genres with his indigenous sound creating multicultural connections all over the globe. In the past year Terrance Simien and the Zydeco Experience have traveled as musical ambassadors to Havana, Cuba, Sao Paulo, Brazil (just days before Katrina slammed the Gulf Coast) and Sydney, Australia.
