| Jazz at the Rock The first annual "Jazz at the Rock" Concert will be May 20th in Morro Bay, California. The Chamber of Commerce will raise money to pay for jazz music scholarships at Morro Bay High School and Cuesta College. We also hope to have one for Cal Poly as well. Students from Cuesta College will be playing with the Frank Capp Sextet featuring Barbara Morrison Saturday night. Frank Capp, a flexible and consistently swinging drummer, loves to drive a big band. As leader of the Juggernaut, he got to push and inspire some of Los Angeles' best. Capp found his initial fame playing with Stan Kenton's Orchestra. Two years later, he settled in Los Angeles; became a busy studio musician; and played with everyone from Ella Fitzgerald, Harry James, and Charlie Barnet to Stan Getz, Art Pepper, and Dave Pell. The dazzling Barbara Morrison has been featured on over 20 recordings. She has dazzled fans of a wide array of genres from traditional Jazz and Blues to Gospel and Pop. Her melodic voice, with its two-and-a-half-octave range, is known worldwide, as are her rich, unique, soulful and highly spirited interpretations of both, familiar Jazz and Blues classics and original contemporary tunes. Equally as striking is Ms. Morrison's ability to belt out down-home, soul-stirring Blues. Her impassioned renditions of old and favorite torch songs are nothing short of breathtaking. write your comments about the article :: © 2006 Jazz News :: home page |
