The fifth annual Rochester International Jazz Festival presented by Heluva Good Quality Foods, returns June 9-17, 2006. The spectacular nine-day event features over 170 concerts and 600 musicians representing more than a dozen countries.

Woody Allen and His New Orleans Jazz Band open the Festival June 9th in a rare performance outside New York City that is an exclusive benefit for the New Orleans Musicians Hurricane Relief Fund. Other stars include the godfather of soul James Brown, Phil Woods, McCoy Tyner, Toots Thielemans, Wayne Shorter, Susan Tedeschi, Etta James, Little Feat, Soulive and Dickey Betts.

"We're cookin' up a musical storm in Rochester, " said John Nugent, Producer and Artistic Director. "RIJF's ingredients include multiple genres of creative improvised music. Add a dash of New Orleans old, a dash of New Orleans new. Throw in a main course of jazz legends, open up a fantastic bottle of blues and finish off with a dessert sampling of the finest emerging artists from around the world. RIJF's plate offers something for everybody's taste buds!"

"An important feature this year is a major tribute to New Orleans, " said Marc Iacona, Festival Executive Director. "In addition to the spectacular opening night with Woody Allen we are also presenting five New Orleans-based groups, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Papa Grows Funk, Asylum Street Spankers, Red Stick Ramblers and Dwayne Dopsie & the Zydeco Hellraisers."

The festival also offers more than 50 free concerts including the new Museum and Gallery Family Series, presented by Rochester Area Community Foundation, at the Memorial Art Gallery, George Eastman House and on the Mary Jemison Riverboat.
