| London International Jazz Competition, results 2006 by Cindy Hacker After much deliberation, Filipino Mon David was announced the winner. He received the LIJC Vocalist 2006 award, a cheque for £1,000 and immediate follow up gigs at Jagz in Ascot, Thursday 23 March and the 606 Club, Chelsea, Sunday 26 March. As a result of this competition, CANDID Records, through its company in Manila will be recording Mon David's album in the summer and promoting it world-wide. The Gibson-May Award for most impressive performance of an individual song went to Australia based Alison Wedding for her rendition of We'll Be Together Again in the semi-final. Alison also performed with Mon David at Jagz and 606 Club. Mayor of London, Ken Livingstone said: "The London International Jazz Competition provides a significant platform to bring jazz to new audiences and boosts London's cultural profile internationally. The creative industries make a major contribution to London, economically as well as culturally, and this competition is an excellent opportunity for aspiring musicians." Recognition goes to all 107 competitors from 25 nations, whose applications were of very high standard.
