| Anat Fort with Perry Robinson in NYC Hudson View Gardens Performing Arts Group presents Anat Fort (piano) and Perry Robinson (clarinet) Sunday, March 19th in the HVG "Lounge" at 116 Pinehurst Ave and 183rd St. as part of the Sundays at 5 concert series. Anat Fort's trio performs regionally and internationally at venues such as Symphony Space, Brooklyn Academy of Music, Makor, Cornelia Street Caf and has participated at the JVC Jazz Festival (2005). Her next CD will be released under the ECM Records label soon and the Trio is excited to record their first CD this year. A prolific and active composer and arranger, Fort in 2000 was commissioned to write Tzohar for string orchestra and improvising piano, performing it with the chamber orchestra Ramat-Gan in Israel. Since the premiere, she has performed it with the Palo-Alto Symphony in Palo Alto, CA and the professional orchestra in residence at William Paterson University. Her next commission, Ktanot (for chamber ensemble), was premiered in 2002 by the Musica Nova Consort at the Tel-Aviv Biennial for contemporary music. She has since received two composition grants from the Jerome foundation and was recently commissioned to create five new arrangements of Israeli music by the Opera House in Tel Aviv, Israel. As a resident New Yorker since 1996, Anat has had the privilege of playing with such influential artists as drummer Paul Motian, vocalist Joe Williams, clarinetist Perry Robinson, Count Basie trombonist Al Grey, and many others. Having been listed in Downbeat International Critics Poll of Talent Deserving Wider Recognition category from the early '70s through the early '90s, clarinetist Perry Robinson has been and still is exactly that--a talent deserving far more recognition than he has received. As a matter of fact, from 1975 through 1982 he was actually voted either #1 or #2 in this category of distinction. And when the genius of Perry Robinson is scheduled to perform live, it's a date to mark down on your calendar in pen, not pencil. Perry Robinson is truly a musical icon, with a performing and recording career that is well over 40 years old, spanning all manner of genres, styles, and categories. Born in 1938 in New York City, he grew up in a musical family, his father Earl Robinson being a well-known film-score composer. Since then Perry has traveled far and wide to play with the most important musicians of his time, and in the process become a living legend of the jazz clarinet The list of artists with whom he has been associated is immense in quantity, quality and stylistic diversity. His discography reveals work with, among others, Henry Grimes, Gunter Hampel, Dave Brubecks and the Brubecks, Tete Montoliu, Charlie Haden, Carla Bley, Archie Shepp, Bill Dixon, John Carter, and many others. Today Perry's journeys continue far and wide, staying as active as always, and discovering and rediscovering (like his recent performances with the long-lost great bassist Henry Grimes).
