| Freddie Hubbard & The New Jazz Composers Octet in New York Jazz virtuoso, Freddie Hubbard, known throughout the world as one of the greatest “Hard-Bop” trumpeters, appears on the Flushing Town Hall stage Friday, March 24th at 8:00 PM. Hubbard’s performance will highlight his celebrated 50-year career from Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers to Sonny Rollins and Herbie Hancock. Freddie Hubbard began his illustrious jazz career playing trumpet in his high school band. By the age of 20, Hubbard formed his first group, the Jazz Contemporaries, and moved to New York City where he amazed fans and critics while working with veteran jazz artists Sonny Rollins, Quincy Jones, and other notable musicians. After releasing what many consider his masterpiece, Ready for Freddie, Hubbard joined the Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers and went on to win Down Beat’s “New Star” award on trumpet. Soon after, Hubbard provided his unmistakable sound on numerous Blue Note recordings with Herbie Hancock and began experimenting with varying musical styles and jazz-fusions culminating with a Grammy Award for his album, First Light.
