| Sharon Bailey New CD Release "Live on 7" by Bob Silvestri Jazz aficionados fear not the local scene is still alive as evidenced by the new release from Sharon Bailey titled Live On 7. The seven tracks were recorded live (hence the title) at The Tralf on July 17, 2005 and features Bailey’s exquisite vocal phrasings and style along with her stellar band comprised of Randy Stirtzinger(piano), Sabu Adeyola (bass), Alistair Robertson(saxophone) and Kevin Lipischak (drums). Special mention must also be made to Stirtzinger for his stunning arrangements which breathe new life and freshness into this set of standards. A melancholy and much slower arrangement on “I’ve Got You Under My Skin” stretches to almost fifteen minutes leaving room for improvisation from the musicians. The same goes for “My Funny Valentine” which clocks in at almost ten minutes and gives space for some phenomenal saxophone soloing from Robertson. Bailey’s vocals on “All of Me” and “How High the Moon” are dulcet and playful without becoming saccharine. “On Green Dolphin Street”, “Too Close for Comfort” and “Don’t Get Around Much Anymore” round out the disc. write your comments about the article :: © 2006 Jazz News :: home page |
