| 7th Annual Heart of Texas Quadruple Bypass Music Festival The seventh annual Heart of Texas Quadruple Bypass Music Festival, also called the ‘Texas Rock Fest’, has a record number of 280 artists/bands performing at this year’s event, which benefits local Austin musician Luann "Lulu" Williams. Returning to downtown Austin on March 15-18, 2006, this year’s HOTQB expands into seven venues, including the outdoor Rockstar Energy Drink stage. A portion of the event proceeds is earmarked to assist Lulu Williams, drummer for Austin bluesy rock band Junkyard Mary. The 25 year-old Williams is also the daughter of famed Lubbock guitarist Steve Williams (Marcia Ball, Joe Ely, Jimmy Dale Gilmour). Williams, who has no medical insurance, recently survived open-heart surgery due to a burst aorta caused by high blood pressure. HOTQB sponsor Rockstar Energy Drink is also donating a portion of sales from "The Bypass"; a specialty drink they are concocting for the Heart of Texas Quadruple Bypass Music Festival. It was March 2000, when ATX/NYC-based music video producer Adam Brewer launched his first music festival -- starting humbly with one venue and sixteen bands. Now in its seventh year, the 2006 HOTQB Music Festival boasts over 280 indie acts, scheduled for 334 performances over four days on stages at downtown venues Spill on Sixth, Bar Austin, Fuel, Nuno’s Upstairs, Vicci, Treasure Island and the RockStar Energy Drink Stage, all within comfortable walking distance of one another. The HOTQB music festival features a wide variety of musical genres, hosting the best in indie singer songwriters, pop, rock, alternative, punk, funk, metal, and country bands. Sets not to miss include talented new songsters like Austin’s Cheryl Bliss and Montreal storyteller Courtney Wing. Or pump your fist in the air on Wednesday night at Spill on Sixth with Austin’s reigning metal bands. Featuring Meyvn, voted Best Austin Group of 2005 in The Edge Magazine's Reader’s Poll Awards and Powderburn, voted Best Metal Band for the past three year’s by the Austin Chronicle and voted Best Austin Metal Band of 2005 by The Edge, as they throw down for a Dimebag Darrell Tribute. An all-star Austin pop rock lineup on Thursday night at the Spill consists of Abra Moore, Casey McPherson (Endochine), Joseph King (Canvas), Johnny Goudie, Billy Harvey and Kacy Crowley. Houston’s favorite country son, Sean Reefer and The Resin Valley Boys, along with Opie Hendrix and Austin country rockers Back Porch Mary, will join Brooklyn’s dark rockabilly punksters The Lonesome Doves on Thursday night at Bar Austin. There are two chances to catch South Korea's The Mun as they debut their modern version of blues infused rock ala Led Zeppelin and the Doors, appearing on the outdoor stage Thursday afternoon and Friday night at Nuno's Upstairs. The original ghetto rockers Downsiid will funk you up Friday night at the Spill, followed by funk rockers South FM, Mad Mexicans, Dirty Wormz and the toxic funk of Orange County's Slapbak will finish you off.
