| John Zorn's Acoustic Masada at Toronto Downtown Jazz Festival  A true innovator and leader in avant-garde jazz, saxophonist John Zorn will be playing as part of the TD Canada Trust Toronto Downtown Jazz Festival on Wednesday, June 28, 2006 at The Music Hall, 147 Danforth Avenue, Toronto. Drawing inspiration from an eclectic range of sources and using unconventional sounds, Zorn has been breaking, transforming and reshaping the boundaries of jazz for over three decades. Writing and performing music of astonishing breadth, Zorn has explored the gamut of musical interests including everything from film music to free jazz to hard-core thrash to Yiddish folk music and back.After a lengthy absence from Toronto, Zorn makes a triumphant return with his group, John Zorn's Acoustic Masada. Based on the idea of creating a new radical Jewish sound that would be relevant today, Zorn merged traditional Jewish scales with the sound of Ornette Coleman to create Masada. Joining Zorn will be Dave Douglas on trumpet, Greg Cohen on drums and Joey Baron on drums. The TD Canada Trust Toronto Downtown Jazz Festival will be cookin' for 10 days this summer when it takes over the city from June 23 - July 2, 2006.
