| Canadian Jazz Festival to Return byCindy McLeod The Edmonton Jazz Society has announced plans to launch a jazz festival for the second year from June 23 to July 2. The Festival will be called the Yardbird Jazz Festival, named after the famous jazz club in the Alberta capital. The society took over from Jazz City Festival last year, when the long time festival producer pulled out due to financial problems. The Society will announce the artist lineup in May. Although a number of European acts are a possibility, the main focus will be on Canadian jazz musicians and local talent. The format of the festival will follow last year’s model, with major headliners performing at the Yardbird Suite and the Citadel Theatre. Other performances will take place at Catalyst and Varscona theatres, and restaurants and pubs in the downtown core. Approximately 60 different events were staged last year, and jazz lovers can expect the same this summer.
