| Don Byron Conducts "Ebony Concerto" Don Byron will conduct Igor Stravinsky's jazz-inspired “Ebony Concerto” and “Elegy for JFK” at the March 18 “Wall to Wall Stravinsky” at Symphony Space. Symphony Space, whose landmark marathons have made it a pioneer in in-depth artistic exploration (including a Wall to Wall Ellington), will present Wall to Wall Stravinsky, a twelve-hour celebration of Igor Stravinsky, perhaps the greatest composer of the 20th Century. Hosted by Symphony Space Artistic Director Isaiah Sheffer, the free event, in the Peter Jay Sharp theatre will feature a vast array of the composer's works, some not heard in public for decades, for orchestra, chamber music, opera, theatre and dance performed by hundreds of artists. The signature Wall to Wall marathons at Symphony Space have explored the works of Stephen Sondheim (for which devoted fans lined up beginning at 1:30 AM on the day of performance last spring), a concert now being broadcast throughout the fall on public radio; Beethoven, Joni Mitchell, Kurt Weill, Duke Ellington and other legendary creators. The Peter Jay Sharp theatre is at Symphony Space, 2537 Broadway (at 95th Street), New York, NY. The concert will be taped for future broadcast. write your comments about the article :: © 2006 Jazz News :: home page |
