| Keep America Beautiful in Biloxi, Miss. The State of Mississippi will host Keep America Beautiful for the kickoff of the organization's signature event, the Great American Cleanup. The nationwide event, now in its 21st year, mobilizes millions of volunteers each spring to clean, beautify and improve their communities. The 2006 Great American Cleanup kickoff event - the Hurricane Katrina Restoration project - will take place on March 2, 2006 at the Biloxi Town Green. The project is being conducted by Keep America Beautiful, Keep Mississippi Beautiful/PAL, the City of Biloxi and the Harrison County Beautification Commission in an effort to clean, fix-up and beautify a community that was ravaged by the Hurricane Katrina disaster. Opening festivities will include performances by blues recording artist Davis Coen and the Biloxi High School Marching Band, and will feature the presentation of the President's Volunteer Service Awards to outstanding volunteers from Mississippi. Following the opening ceremonies, volunteers will make a difference by participating in numerous restoration activities in four different zones of the city, made possible through in-kind support from Great American Cleanup National Sponsors. write your comments about the article :: © 2006 Jazz News :: home page |
