| The Edsel Gomez Quartet Live at J&R Music World  On Tuesday, February 22nd, you'll have a chance to hear pianist Edsel Gomez with Greg Tardy on tenor sax and clarinet, Howard Britz on bass and Antonio DeVivo on drums at J&r Music World, Park Row, New York, N.Y. Now internationally recognized as one of the leading Latin jazz artists on the scene, Edsel Gomez will delight your ear when his quartet performs live at J&R Music World and WBGO Jazz 88.3 FM on Tuesday, February 21st. As a youngster, Edsel would meticulously listen to his sister's piano lessons. He'd then take a seat behind the keys himself, and play by ear the rhythms and chords he'd overheard.Eventually, Edsel immersed himself in the blazing “montuno” playing style of his idol, pianist and composer Eddie Palmieri. What came next was what many adults wouldn't dare to do: he formed his own salsa band at age 9! It was in his teen years that his jazz interests piqued, leading him to study at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. While in Boston, he started playing with heavy-weights like Claudio Roditi, Billy Pierce, and Don Byron. Gomez's personal approach to fusing jazz, Latin, and Brazilian music makes him a versatile musical partner to musicians all over the world. We'll be treated to live renditions of tracks from his new album, Cubist Music (ZoHo Music), produced by long-time friend Don Byron.
