Alex Bellegarde andNeal Haiduck will perform in NYC

Bassist Alex Bellegarde, a prominent player on the Montreal scene, will join American jazz Clarinetist Neal Haiduck for a weekend of jazz in New York City, beginning Friday, February 24, when the duo will play swinging Modern Jazz with Rob Garcia, drums, and Nathan Bloom, guitar, at Detour, East 13th Street at First Avenue.

Bellegarde, who leads a quartet and a ten-piece ensemble in Montreal, won the coveted General Motors Grand Prix du Jazz at the 2005 Montreal International Jazz Festival. Haiduck, who is one of the few modern jazz clarinetists in the world, plays regularly on the New York scene and in European and Canadian jazz festivals.

Bellegarde and Haiduck have a long-standing interest in Latin music. Bellegarde recently returned from Mexico, where he played with Cuban and Mexican artists. Haiduck has played with many Latin bands, including Tito Puente's band and, most recently, El Rico Son, led by trumpeter Enrique Medina. Bellegarde and Haiduck will join Medina and friends for an explosion of Latin Jazz on Saturday, February 25, at Camaradas, on First Avenue at East 115th Street, in El Barrio.
