| Katie Bull plays at 55 Bar Talented NYC downtown jazz vocalist Katie Bull will play Tuesday, Feb. 14th at the 55 Bar music from her last album Love Spook. In this Valentine's night gig she will perform with David Phelps - guitar, Ben Allison - bass and Harvey Sorgen - drums. David Phelps is an inventive guitarist with a flair for the unexpected. He developed his phenomenal rhythm-guitar skills from the Dallas Blues and Funk scene. He has recorded with everyone from Adam Holtzman to Public Enemy. David performs regularly with everyone from Peter Apfelbaum, Skillet, Chris Dahlghren, Lily White, and Rob Miller's Prime Meridian. Harvey Sorgen's high energy and passionate mastery of many styles was lauded in Time Out magazine's listings when last he played with Katie Bull at 55 Bar. Well, if you missed that gig, you can hear him combust the room again - Harvey's flow and fusion edge of jazz, rock, and funk is evident on recordings and gigs with Ahmad Jamal, Robbie Dupree, Roswell Rudd, Dry Jack, Bill Frisell, NRBQ, The Mallards (his own group) and many others, including Hot Tuna. Harvey is also a consummate “out” player; he is a core member of the experimental jazz groups the Fonda-Stevens project, and Stevens, Rust, and Sorgen. He tours nationally and internationally. Katie Bull has performed and/or recorded with numerous extraordinary veteran jazz musicians including Michael Jefry Stevens; Joe Fonda (with whom she has the Bull-Fonda voice/bass duo) ; Lou Grassi; Matt Wilson; Martin Wind; Frank Kimbrough; George Schuller; Jon Wikan; Cameron Brown; Josh Wolfe; and Cary DeNegris. Her Love Spook album was chosen by Singer/Musican Mag in the Top 50 Indie category for 2005, and Cadence magazine just gave Love Spook the Editor's Choice for Best of 2005. write your comments about the article :: © 2006 Jazz News :: home page |
