| CBC Radio Airs Benefit Concert From New Orleans Canada’s top musicians are heading to the Big Easy to team up with local artists for a spirit-boosting benefit concert at The House of Blues on Saturday, February 11 2006. The concert airs live nationally on CBC Radio One and across North America on Sirius Satellite Radio. An exclusive group of jazz, R&B and hip hop stars will be brought together including Daniel Lanois, Delfeayo Marsalis, Jane Bunnett, Buck 65, the Mighty Popo, Richard Underhill and Colin Linden. Hurricane Katrina’s devastation forced many musicians to leave New Orleans. Now, Canadian artists inspired by the musical soul of the city are providing a stage for the local players remaining and to help fund the revitalization of the local music scene. Sook-Yin-Lee of CBC Radio One’s Definitely Not the Opera and Global Village’s Jowi Taylor host the four-hour live-to-air concert, with proceeds going to the New Orleans Musicians’ Clinic and community radio station WWOZ. “So many of us have happy memories of the people, the atmosphere, the food and music from this unique corner of America, ” says John Northcott, the CBC’s producer for the show. “By broadcasting this concert we’ll show that the spirit of music in New Orleans still burns bright.” The Canadian lineup is: Daniel Lanois, Kevin Breit, Jane Bunnett, Phil Dwyer, guitar aces David Gogo, Jimmy Bowskill, the Mighty Popo and Colin Linden, horn players Richard Underhill and Paul Neufeld, Buck 65, Jully Black, Serena Rider and Lennie Gallant.
