Wayna's Live Show at the 9:30 club

Critically-acclaimed singer-songwriter Wayna will take a break from writing and recording her next album to perform a jazz, blues and funk-infused set at the 9:30 club Friday, February 10, 2006.

Like many current chart toppers who conquered a rite-of-passage by pavement pounding and peddling their own material before making it big, Wayna too has been earning her stripes wowing audiences at her live shows and generating a buzz that has made her a top seller at indie online merchant CD Baby.com. Wayna’s track “This Ol’ Grudge” will be featured on the website’s top sellers of 2005 fall compilation.

Followers of independent and underground music, bloggers, DJs and others with a niche for predicting emerging artists on the brink of mainstream attention have been proclaiming Wayna as one to watch. This list includes Essence magazine which called Wayna’s debut CD, “Moments of Clarity: Book 1” a compelling and varied chapter of contemporary R&B and Billboard.com which called the project, “a standout on the indie front.” Wayna has also been garnering attention from industry insiders who appreciate fusion of soul, jazz, rhythm and blues, and hip hop such as Stevie Wonder who said “her voice reminds me of Syreeta’s. She’s incredible.”

Wayna wound up the year garnering two Muse’s Muse.com awards for Best R&B single and Best R&B album beating out nearly a thousand candidates. At the top of 2006, fans can anticipate a DVD release showcasing snippets from Wayna’s much-talked about live performances. A new collection of infectious songs to be included in Book 2 to her debut release is also in the works from the Ethiopia-born DC area native.

The former Bill Clinton writer and beauty queen who has been compared to Billie Holiday, Erykah Badu and Lauryn Hill has opened for national recording acts such as Common, Amerie, Fantasia and Bobby Valentino.
