| Red Cat Publicity Celebrates First Year This January, fourteen-year music-industry veteran Jason Byrne celebrated the one-year anniversary of the opening of a new public relations firm, Red Cat Publicity, a one man show set up to offer creative and energetic publicity services to artists who perform and record jazz, world and improvised music. Red Cat Publicity began with a highly publicized CD release and a sold out CD release performance at Joe's Pub by guitarist/composer Rez Abbasi on January 15, 2005. In the first year of operation, Red Cat Publicity proudly orchestrated successful publicity campaigns for artists such as Dave Douglas, The Festival of New Trumpet Music, Avishai Cohen, Roni Ben-Hur, Kathy Kosins, Mick Rossi, The Brooklyn Sax Quartet, Arthur Kell, The Tribeca Performing Arts Center (Monk In Motion), and many others. In the first half of 2006 Red Cat Publicity will be working with saxophonist Chris Potter (”Underground” - Sunnyside Records, rel date January 31), pianist Pete Malinverni (new releases include “Joyful” - ArtistShare-rel date May 2, and “Theme and Variations” - Reservoir Music, rel date March 21), Peter Eldridge (”Decorum” - rel date March 21), Avishai Cohen (”Continuo” - rel date May 23 on RazDaz Recordz - Sunnyside), Dave Douglas (new Quintet recording due out in April), Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola, and others. Byrne got his start in the music business at GRP Records in 1992 working as an assistant to Dave Grusin and Larry Rosen. He moved on to the position of coordinator in the company's international division, and eventually headed up the department, as Director of International Marketing, during one of its most profitable periods. Following GRP, Byrne worked with Chuck Mangione and Paquito D'Rivera as part of the team at Chesky Records. For five and a half years until December 2004, Byrne was the senior publicist at Third Floor/EastWest Media. With the opening of Red Cat Publicity, Jason Byrne's goal is to offer creative artists publicity services with intensity and dedication. Being an experienced publicist, and musician, Byrne is in a position to be an effective press agent for artists wishing to expand their audience and further their careers. write your comments about the article :: © 2006 Jazz News :: home page |
