| Rian Malan touring across SA Acclaimed writer and journalist turned singer Rian Malan is venturing out on his first nationwide tour in February. The "Beneekte Soutie Tour” starts in Cape Town, visits Pretoria and Johannesburg, makes a U-turn to the KKNK’s Kaktus Oppi Vlaktes concert and finishes off in the Bushveld at OppiKoppi’s “Haat my want ek vreet my hasie” Easter Festival. The controversial Malan’s venture into music began last year with Stoomradio, the stunning debut CD from Radio Kalahari Orkes. His first-ever solo performance at 2005’s August OppiKoppi struck several observers as one of the highlights of the festival. Malan went on to release a solo CD, Alien Inboorling, which was accorded four stars by Tonight and declared one of the best albums of 2005 by both Beeld and Die Burger. The Beneekte Soutie tour sees Malan and friends taking the stage to perform some of the zanier songs from Stoomradio plus a selection of “suicide ballads, skate jazz and political diatribes” from Alien Inboorling. Given Malan’s total lack of showbiz credentials and experience, this might be your only chance to see the artist Koos Kombuis has described as “a one-man cultural revolution.” write your comments about the article :: © 2006 Jazz News :: home page |
