Patchouli and Kanas this weekend at Web

Shows for adults and kids close out the month for Charlotte’s Web this weekend. Patchouli performs Friday, Jan. 27, at Krypto Music Lounge, 308 W. State St. Saturday, Jan. 28, Jim Kanas puts on a Kids’ Show at Rockford Public Library Auditorium.

Musical duo Patchouli, Bruce and Julie recorded their first tape together in 1993, with Bruce on acoustic guitar and Julie on a 5-gallon pail. They toured the country for four years. In 1996, they recorded and produced their first duo album when they came through Chicago on tour. Strawberry Blues was released in December of that year.

In 1997, Julie was injured as a pedestrian in a freak car accident in Chicago. Two months later, after an incredible recovery, Julie and Bruce were married, and Julie resumed playing with the band. In 1998, they parted ways with the band and moved back to the Pacific Northwest.

Later, they returned to the Midwest and called this new musical project Patchouli. Since then, Patchouli has been selected for several music industry showcases including performances at APCA, NACA, ACUI AND Chicago’s MOBfest.

Jim Kanas is a guitarist from northern Illinois. He studied classical music and jazz improvisation and through educational and other venues found himself in the company of many jazz performers and educators including Pat Metheny, George Benson, Gary Burton and Stan Kenton. He earned a unique interdisciplinary music performance degree from Northern Illinois University in contemporary guitar skills, commercial music and American folk instruments. He is an Illinois Arts Council Artstour artist, and performs and records regularly as a soloist.
