Powder Blues Release New CD

It's been three years since their last release, but legendary Canadian blues rockers from Vancouver, Powder Blues (on the Red Square in Moscow, 1990 on photo) have come back with the real thing. Their new CD Blues + Jazz = BLAZZ! is high energy big band swing tunes. Known for three decades of radio friendly rocking blues tunes Blues + Jazz = BLAZZ! carries on the tradition in style. "Swing revivals have introduced a new generation to the joys of swing", remarks bandleader Tom Lavin. "Although Powder Blues have played swing material since the beginning, we've never released a jazz-tinged big band record. Considering the requests we've had for a record like this Blues + Jazz = BLAZZ! is probably long overdue. Those who have heard it are calling it a party-in-a-jewel case!"

The eleven-tune CD includes the new single "Cookin' With the Blues", a great cover of the Boz Scaggs 1970 hit, "Runnin' Blue", "Bucket of Beer" by legend Buddy Johnson and lots more up-tempo originals. "The band is vocal, guitar, bass, drums, piano, B-3 organ and six horns", says Lavin. "I think the tightness of the arrangements comes from playing together for so long.

"We're very excited about Blues + Jazz = BLAZZ!. The tunes are happy, energetic and made for airplay. We're taking this CD to radio stations all across Canada, the States and Western Europe; in short, wherever we've toured. Programmers who've heard a taste say they can't wait to get their hands on it."

Powder Blues formed in 1978 in Vancouver, B.C. Their first album Uncut has sold more than a million copies worldwide. The band has toured continuously, achieving a number of milestones including headlining the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland, winning a Canadian Grammy (the Juno) and the 'W. C. Handy Award for Blues' in Memphis. Their discography includes thirteen albums. Blues + Jazz = BLAZZ! is their latest release.
