| North Sea Jazz Night at MIDEM In an unique cooperation on Tuesday evening 24 January, for the first time in the 40 year history of MIDEM, a “Dutch North Sea Jazz Night” will be organised. An evening of live jazz music, hosted at the official Midem & IJFO Jazz Club. Hotel Majestic, Salle Barriere, located directly across the street from the “Palais de festival” in Cannes. Co-organisers are North Sea Jazz, International Jazz Festivals Organization (IJFO), the MIDEM Organisation and Munich Records BV. The event is supported by Buma and Conamus/Dutchsound. The “Dutch North Sea Jazz Night” will feature the following musicians and bands, presented in the south of France: The Pitch Pine Project featuring Udo Pannekeet, a new talent on bassguitar, pianist Rob van Bavel and guitarist Martijn van Iterson, later pianist Amina Figarova and her septet to be followed by saxophone player Tineke Postma and her band. These trend setting musicians belong to the top of the very lively and active Dutch jazz scene. In many countries their music receives more and more positive attention. In order to promote and present themselves to a wider audience, they are eager to perform on the largest international and professional music meeting in the world. Their cd's and dvd's meanwhile appear in more than 12 countries. Saxophone player Tineke Postma has been nominated by IJFO for an important new international music prize, the “MIDEM international jazz rvlations”. In honor of this prize Tineke and her band will perform on Wednesday evening 25 January at the Midem & IJFO Jazz Club. Hotel Majestic, Salle Barriere. Biography's Musicians performing at the Dutch North Sea Jazz Night The Pitch Pine Project In 2002, bass guitarist Udo Pannekeet decided that it really was time to start his own group that he named “The Pitch Pine Project”. He wanted the best musicians that he could find in order to create his own unique sound. With their first album “Quarantine” they succeeded considerable well, with commitment of the virtuoso pianist Rob van Bavel, guitarist Martijn van Iterson, the lyrical saxophone player Tom Beek and the driving but also subtle drummer Chris Strik. At the North Sea Jazz festival 2004, Pitch Pine guitarist Martijn van Iterson received from Pat Metheny, the prestigious “Bird Award”. Martijns own album “The whole bunch” was released in 2004 and 2005, in the Benelux, France, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, UK, USA and Canada and soon will be in Japan. In the USA this cd reached #11 of the Jazz Week album Airplay Chart and meanwhile had more than 4000 (!) Spins on the American radio according to the Mediaguide reports. Amina Figarova Pianist/componist Amina Figarova and flutist Bart Platteau travel the world with several combinations of musicians. Figarova's CD “Come escape with me” in 2005 reached # 7 (!) of the jazz week album Airplay and is still heard frequently played on the American radio stations. This Autumn of 2005 her newest cd “September suite” was released in the US, Benelux and the UK with France and Germany to follow soon. The album was dedicated to the surviving dependants of the 9/11 disaster and is a sincere reproduction of Amina's feelings during and after the attack when she was staying in New York for concerts. Recently Amina's first dvd (DTS 5:1 sound) was released under the name “Live in Amsterdam” which is a concert that has been recorded at the spectacular new Bimhuis Jazzclub in cooperation with NPS, RNW and Munich Records. On 21 November a selection of the concert has been broadcast by NPS output on the national TV network Netherlands 3. Tineke Postma Saxophone player/composer Tineke Postma gathered innumerable jazz prizes and was the first Dutch female musician to win the prestigious Sisters in Jazz Competition at the International Association of Jazz Education convention in the United States Her first album “First Avenue” was in 2004, ranked #19 in the US Jazzweek airplay chart. Recently in 2005, her second album “For the Rhythm”, was released featuring among others (Herbie Hancock's and Dave Sanborns) drummer Terri Lyne Carrington. The new album is now available in the Benelux, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, UK, France, Japan, the US where it very soon reached # 20 in the Jazzweek album chart recently! In October and November 2005 Tineke Postma, with great singers like Dianne Reeves, Nancy Wilson a.o. was on tour and played as a dedicated member of the “Billie and me” band at several prestigious American concert venues, like the famous Carnegie hall. With her own band Tineke toured Japan during the first half of December 2005. Tineke Postma and her band appear on a dvd recorded at the Bimhuis called “Live in Amsterdam” that is released as part of a dvd serie by Munich Records.
