| The 14th Annual Twin Cities Winter Jazz Fest The Twin Cities Winter Jazz Fest returns on Sunday, February 26, 2006, at the Doubletree Hotel-Park Place in Minneapolis. Saxophone great David “Fathead” Newman leads a lineup featuring be-bop, big band, swing and world music. Newman was a longtime sax man for Ray Charles, and his muscular, meaty tone can be heard on hits like “What'd I Say” and “Hit the Road Jack.” Newman's 2005 release “I Remember Brother Ray” is a highly lauded tribute to his late friend and musical collaborator. In addition to mainstage performances by Newman and outstanding Twin Cities and national acts, the Twin Cities Jazz Society Big Band Stage will feature the Cedar Avenue Big Band with vocalist Debbie Duncan. During the day, the Twin Cities Winter Jazz Festival and the Twin Cities Jazz Society will honor the lifetime of achievement of three Twin Cities jazz greats. Eddie Berger, Jeanne Arland Peterson and Irv Williams will be recognized for their incredible contributions to the Twin Cities jazz scene during a special presentation. A silent auction will also be held, raising funds for KBEM-FM Jazz88 and the Twin Cities Hot Summer Jazz Festival. write your comments about the article :: © 2006 Jazz News :: home page |
