Jim Knapp Orchestra at the Seattle Drum School

The Jim Knapp Orchestra continues its series of monthly performances at the L.A.B. performance space of the Seattle Drum School February 14, 2006.

The Jim Knapp Orchestra is well known for its original style, superior writing and virtuoso performers. The orchestra's soloists include saxophonists Mark Taylor, Steve Treseler, and Adam Harris, trumpeters Jay Thomas and Vern Sielert, and trombonist Jeff Hay The rhythm section is made up of John Hansen on piano, Phil Sparks on bass, and drummer Adam Kessler. The brass is led by the lead trumpet of Brad Allison, and anchored by the bass trombone of Dave Marriot and the baritone sax of Jim Dejoie with Tom Varner's French horn contributing to the uniqueness of the band's sound.

The L.A.B. performance space at the Seattle Drum School is a small theatre with perfect sound and an excellent piano. It is all ages, no alcohol or smoke and has easy parking in a safe neighborhood.

Jim Knapp is a trumpet player and composer. He leads the Jim Knapp Orchestra, which plays his music exclusively and the quintet The J-Word. The Jim Knapp Orchestra has recorded On Going Home for Seabreeze (Los Angeles), Things For Now for A-Records (Amsterdam) and Secular Breathing for Origin (Seattle). He developed the Jazz Program at Cornish College of the Arts in the late '70s and continues to teach there. He is represented as a composer and/or performer on the ECM, Challenge/A-Records, Origin, Seabreeze, Flying Fish, Catalyst, and Mode record labels.
