Wallace Roney at the Iridium Jazz Club

Wallace Roney, one of the most exciting trumpeters in jazz today, will play at the Iridium Jazz Club January 12 - 15 (IAJE Week). Wallace Roney will play with Antoine Roney, sax Eric Allen, drums Clarence Seay, bass Robert Irving, piano Val, turntables

Wallace Roney is a three-time Grammy Award winning Jazz Master. From being an acclaimed prodigy of Miles Davis to becoming one of Jazz music's most influential leaders, Roney has set himself apart by continually raising the musical bar, not being satisfied with merely recreating the sounds of Jazz tradition but striving to push the genre forward. His illustrious career boasts performances with such musical greats as Art Blakey, Walter Davis Jr., Herbie Hancock, Sonny Rollins, Carole King, Joni Mitchell and none other than Miles Davis himself. “Please put those very tired and very old Miles imitator barbs aside: Roney is a terrific Miles-influenced trumpeter with amazing chops and tremendous stylistic range” Dave Wayne of Jazz Weekly writes.

His critically acclaimed 2005 High Note CD Mystikal, Roney explores the deep, expansive chemistry he established with his crew on Prototype. Following his own muse the leader proudly proclaims, ”Frankly, I don't think there is anyone better than these people I've got in this band. They all share that idea of trying to take the music further.” Taking music further is what Wallace Roney is all about. Just listen to his music and its immediately evident that his is the sound of the future of jazz.
