| Tribute to Bud Powell Forty years ago, in August of 1966, the greatest jazz pianist of his generation, Earl “Bud” Powell, was found wandering through the streets of New York City in the last stages of tuberculosis and malnutrition. He was forty-two years old. This Tuesday evening, January 10th, New York’s Baha’i Center is celebrating Powells’s legacy with a stunning performance featuring pianist Paul Winston, bassist Michael Fleming and drummer Kalil Madi. The program promises to deliver a dazzling evening of pyrotechnics wedded to tunes by Powell, Parker, Winston and others. write your comments about the article :: © 2006 Jazz News :: home page |
