King Of Bebop Piano Lives Again At Baha'i Center

If you want to know what Bud Powell is doing in the after life, the undisputed master of Bebop piano will be strutting his stuff next Tuesday, January 10th, at the Baha'i Center's John Birks Gillespie Auditorium.

This not-to-be-missed event features three of the best jazz musicians on the planet. Leader/pianist Paul Winston has is fulfilling an early prophecy calling him "a bridge of the past, present and future of jazz". Michael Max Fleming, who was the long-time bassist of Mary Lou Williams, and drummer Kalil Madi, who played with Powell himself (no mean feat, since Powell's speed at the keyboard made many a pianist retire early from the music business) are the perfect fuel to spark Winston's keyboard wizardry.

Featured are some of Powell's originals (sadly not often heard these days (and what quality stuff they are!), as well as opuses by musicians Powell played with, like Charlie "Yardbird"" Parker. A bonus is "Chopsticks", Winston's sizzling take on the children's tune.
