Garritan Uses Sonic Morphing Technology

Today at the Consumer Electronics Show, Garritan Libraries, developers of affordable and high-quality computer-based soundware, announced new virtual instruments. Following the phenomenal success of its award-winning Garritan Personal Orchestra, the company announced the Jazz & Big Band library, and the virtual Stradivari Solo Violin. Garritan also plans to release a consumer version of Personal Orchestra. The products will be demonstrated during the show at in the CES South Hall.

With the Jazz & Big Band virtual instrument, Garritan is doing for jazz composers what they did for orchestral composers. The Jazz & Big Band virtual instrument is the world's first with a library of samples designed specifically to recreate the full range of sounds and articulations of a large jazz ensemble with soloists. It features over 50 individual instruments, including: 16 different saxophones; 5 trumpets (with the full complement of mutes, plus a "scream" trumpet); 5 trombones (with the full range of mutes); flutes, clarinets and tuba; and a complete rhythm section with 3 guitars, a Steinway jazz piano, vintage electric piano, acoustic and electric bass, jazz drums, vibraphone, accordion, Latin percussion and more.

The Stradivari Solo Violin virtual instrument sets a new standard for realistic performance in a sample-based instrument. It virtually places the sound of one of the world's best violins, three hundred years old and worth millions, in the hands of any performer with a computer and keyboard. A vast range of realistic fingering and bow articulations are possible in real-time performance using Garritan's controller techniques. Thrilling dynamic and timbral changes can be created within a single note or phrase using Garritan's exclusive "Sonic Morphing" technology, which phase-aligns a series of samples into cohesive gestures

Garritan Personal Orchestra provides the sounds of all the majorinstruments in a ymphony orchestra, including strings, brass, woodwinds, percussion and keyboards. A new and even more affordable "light" version is perfectly suited for budding musicians to learn, compose and play realistic orchestral music from a computer. Even a beginner can add an orchestra to songs and transform Standard MIDI files into lush arrangements. "Pretty amazing!" said J.J. Abrams, Creator & Executive Producer of the hit series Lost and Alias. "A few years ago, if you'd told me that I could own a beautifully sampled, truly portable symphony orchestra, I would have thought you were nuts. But today it exists. The Garritan Personal Orchestra is a composer's dream ... I can write orchestral music anywhere. I love it."
