| The “Jazz” of Matisse in The Baltimore Museum of Art Weaving a musical tapestry of shared influences, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and The Baltimore Museum of Art will collaborate on the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra’s inaugural Explorer Series. The final concerts of the Explorer Series will take place on May 12-14, 2006 and will highlight the Baltimore Museum of Art’s unparalleled collection of works by Henri Matisse—the largest in the world. This program will explore how the use of colors, patterns, and texture in music also translates to art, particularly with Matisse’s illustrated book Jazz, which will be on display at the Baltimore Museum of Art. Led by conductor James Judd and with pianist William Wolfram, the musical program will include the contrapuntal masterpiece Passacaglia and Fugue in C minor by Bach; Bright Blue by modern composer Michael Torke; and Bernstein’s jazz-influenced Symphony No. 2, “Age of Anxiety.” write your comments about the article :: © 2005 Jazz News :: home page |
