"Dooji Wooji" named on Best of 2005 lists

Singer/lyricist Lorraine Feather's 2005 CD “Dooji Wooji, ” which featured her lyrics to four Ellington compositions as well as all-new tunes in a 1930s vein, was named as one of the five best vocal CDs of the year by All About Jazz NY. “Dooji Wooji” also appeared on best-of-the-year lists from The Jazz Journalists' Association and the Jazz Programmers' List.

Feather is currently working with pianists Shelly Berg and Russell Ferrante on songs for her new album, which is expected to be finished by April. This project is described as being in a less retro vein than her previous ones, very “groove-oriented”; it will spotlight the rhythhm section rather than a big band or small big band as in her last two CDs, as well as a guest appearance by Janis Siegel and Cheryl Bentyne of The Manhattan Transfer.

Lorraine Feather also works as a lyricist for film and TV. With composer Mark Watters, she wrote the songs for the Christmas DVD “My Little Pony - A Very Minty Christmas.” This was the #1-selling children's video in the country the week of its release.
