How To Go Into Music Business

“What I'm doing, ” says Ben Coogan, "proves you don’t have to live in L.A. or New York to sell music from major labels like Warner, BMG, Universal and Sony. In 2005, you can be Joe Six-Pack living in the suburbs of Houston and be in the music distribution business."

Coogan, 25, sells music through online retailer Burn Lounge whose website www.burnjams.com has a library of major label downloadable music and an unusual distribution system. Music fans like Coogan sell to their friends, co-workers and neighbors, then recruit them as Burn Lounge distributors. With each download sold, Coogan earns a portion of the sale.

“The income possibilities of this concept are endless, ” he says. “The download music industry projects an estimated $4.5 million in earnings by 2008.”

Burn Lounge offers dozens of musical genres including rock, jazz, show tunes and rap.

“I sell downloads of the same artists the big online retailers sell, ” says Coogan. “That’s what’s so great about Burn Lounge. Technology has evened the playing field for average guys like me.” Coogan says he also sells ring tones, concert tickets and game gadgets through the Burn Lounge website.
