Rob Scheps News

Saxophonist Rob Scheps has been recording all over the U.S. In Los Angeles, he's recorded recently with singer Howard Tate, composer Steve Weisberg, and featured players Carla Bley, Steve Swallow, and Pete Thomas, Elvis Costello's drummer from The Attractions. Many Randy Newman & Carla Bley pieces have been reworked by Weisberg for Tate's classic soulful voice.

In early December, Scheps recorded in Portland, OR with multi- reedman & unique composer Tim Jensen. The pieces are follow-ups to Jensen's excellent 2004 CD A Mind For The Scenery (OriginArts).

Finally, in January, 2006 Scheps will be featured, along with Jeff Tain Watts & Lionel Loueke, on the first ever solo album by former Jazz Messenger, bassist Essiet Okon Essiet, leading his band IBO, a fusion of Nigerian music & jazz.It will be recorded in New York City.
