| Kevin Eubanks comes to the Fox Theatre Saturday, February 18, 2006 jazz guitarist Kevin Eubanks, perhaps best known for his work on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, ” will perform at The Fox Theatre, Tucson, AZ for an intimate evening of jazz. One of the first artists to grace this newly renovated stage, Kevin Eubanks will showcase his uninhibited jazz stylings in this magnificent hall. Eubanks was officially named music director of The Tonight Show with Jay Leno in April 1995. Once of the most prolific jazz guitarists in the country, Eubanks has been a key member of The Tonight Show band since the program premiered in May 1992. Eubanks began studying the violin at the age of 7 and later became proficient on the piano and trumpet. He recalls falling in love with the guitar at a memorable James Brown concert he attended at age 12 and afterward, when he told his parents he would like to add guitar to his repertoire, they were less than excited and turned down his request for lessons. Undaunted, he acquired a guitar and began teaching himself. Eubank’s deep knowledge of jazz guitar shines thought in his single-note lines paired with complex chordal embellishment. Eubanks has toured extensively and recorded with many top jazz artists, in addition to his television and album work. Eubanks scored the HBO Pictures presentation, Rebound and composed the score for the five-part PBS documentary series, Black Westerners. He has released 12 albums in his 17-year recording career and lists Wes Montgomery, John McLaughlin and Jimi Hendrix as his major musical influences. write your comments about the article :: © 2005 Jazz News :: home page |
